Travel during a Pandemic

Vacation planning used to almost as fun as the vacation.  We spent time researching locations, activities, restaurants, and more. We looked at hotels,  resorts, and cruises and decided how we would arrive at our destination.  All that has changed in the wake of COVID-19.

Today, travel planning requires a whole lot more research and isn't as fun as it once was. According to the CDC, some things to think about when planning your travel.
  • Is COVID-19 spreading at your destination? Traveling to locations where COVID 19 is spreading puts you at higher risk for contracting the virus, and spreading it to others.
  • Is someone in your household more sucesseptible to illness and likely to become very ill from the virus? If you become infected while traveling you can transmit the virus to others when you return home, even if you dont have symptoms.
  •  Are you at higher risk for getting very sick from the COVID-19 virus?  Anyone can get ill form the virus, but those with underlying health conditions and older adults are at higher risk for becoming very ill from COVID-19.
  •  Does your destination have requirements or restrictions for travelers? Do you need to self quarantine for 14 days at your destination or when you return home? Are you required to wear a mask?  If you are traveling internationally, check the countries restrictions and entry requirements.
If You Travel

During your trip, take steps to protect yourself and others from COVID-19:

  • Wear a mask to keep your nose and mouth covered when in public settings.
  • Avoid close contact by stay at least 6 feet from anyone who is not from your household.
  • wash your hands often with soap and warm water (scrub for 20 seconds)  or use hand sanitizer (with at least 60% alcohol).
  • Avoid contact with anyone who is sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Finally, consider your mode of travel and understand the risks with each.
